Some customers may need to sideload applications on devices, bypassing the managed Google Play store. Though we recommend to manage your private applications through the managed Google Play store to benefit from the automatic updates, configurations and security features; you can also push and manage sideloaded apps.
>> To push a sideloaded application to your devices:
From your WizyEMM console:
- In the Application Management > Managed Applications tab, click on the Add button found on the top left, and indicate the Application Name and Package Name of your sideloaded app.
- In the profile associated to your devices:
- In the Policies tab, enable the "Allow install from unknown sources" policy.
- In the Applications tab, click on the blue button Choose Applications, and add your sideloaded app to your profile.
- In the Configuration tab, change the Default permission policy to Grant.
- On Android 10 devices and above, you must either:
- Launch and open the WizyEMM Companion app on the devices you are targeting
- Or, manually allow the “display over the other apps” permission for the WizyEMM Companion app on the devices you are targeting
- In the Device List tab, push and install the apk file to your devices, through the Install APK option, located in the Actions or Mass actions drop-down list.
- Either by uploading your APK to the console. (Note: this might take a few minutes if APK is large)
- Or by hosting your APK online and adding the download link to the console. Your download link must be publically available.
- The devices on which you pushed the apk will receive a message asking the user to confirm application installation. The user must accept this, otherwise the installation of the app will fail.
Your sideloaded application is now installed on your devices and included in your profile applications!
Notes:
- For Zebra, Honeywell, and Samsung devices, there is a silent install possible where you can skip steps 3, 4 and 5. Check here for how to do silent install on Zebra, here for Honeywell and here for Samsung.
- In you have set an open Play Store configuration in your WizyEMM profile, you can skip steps 1. and 2.2. However, if you turn on the restricted Play store or the kiosk mode, your application will be removed from your devices because it is not yet included in your WizyEMM profile applications.
- You can easily host an APK on your Google drive, by adding it to Google Drive, then sharing it to "Anyone with the link".
- Copy the share link and extract the specific ID from the link. For example, if the share link is https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bsBOXgI5EJ9O5HxMfJQaaHgpR4bzQM76/view, the string in bold is the ID.
- Replace the ID to the end of this URL : https://drive.google.com/uc?
export=download&id= {{ID}}. So in our case, the download link of the APK is https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id= 1bsBOXgI5EJ9O5HxMfJQaaHgpR4bzQ M76
