The answer depends on whether the device is enrolled in a Device Owner mode, or in a BYOD setup.
1. Device Owner mode
Android makes factory-reset compulsory to enroll a full-managed device to a EMM
If you have an existing EMM in Device Owner mode, you will need to:
- Set up a process to backup the phone data (optional)
- Factory reset each device
- Enroll the device using Zero Touch, QR code or NFC
- Restore the backup

2. Work Profile mode for BYOD
Existing work profiles can be uninstalled, either by the previous EMM admin or by the user of the device.
It is possible to uninstall a work profile of a device in the Settings app, in Accounts > Work > Remove Work Profile.
